Dubrovnik to Split transfer: bridge, delta and motorway
A Dubrovnik to Split transfer heads north-west along the Adriatic highway past Trsteno and Slano, then turns onto the Pelješac access road near Ston. The Pelješac Bridge, opened in 2022, crosses the bay to Komarna on the mainland, so the old corridor through Neum, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s short stretch of coast, is no longer part of the route. For the second half the driver can take the A1 motorway or stay on the coast road through the Makarska riviera, depending on traffic and whether you want a stop.
Documents
The whole journey stays in Croatia, so there is no border check. It is still sensible to keep a passport or ID card with you, since hotels in Split will ask for it at check-in.
Arriving in Split
- The Riva and the streets inside Diocletian’s Palace are pedestrian; the driver stops at the nearest point to your accommodation.
- The ferry port and the bus and train stations are next to the old town, convenient if you are continuing to the islands.
- Split airport is west of the city near Kaštela, if you are flying out the same day.
- Summer Saturdays are the busiest days on this road, when holiday rentals change over.
To travel by sea instead, see the Dubrovnik to Split boat transfer. If you only want to see the city and come back, there is the Split day trip from Dubrovnik, and all road routes are on the car transfers page. Quotes are itemised and sent by email or WhatsApp.
