Cavtat & Konavle private tour from Dubrovnik, half-day (4h).
Cavtat's seafront and the Konavle valley, the half-day that shows you the Dubrovnik locals keep for themselves.
This private half-day tour combines Cavtat, a harbour town with a palm-lined promenade, with the Konavle valley behind it: vineyards and stone villages where silk is still woven by hand for traditional costumes. Our company has been based in Cavtat since 1997.
Tip. Ask the driver to return along the upper Konavle road. It adds about ten minutes and has views over the coast.

Cavtat and Konavle tour: the area in brief
A Cavtat and Konavle tour covers the oldest and the southernmost parts of the Dubrovnik region. Cavtat stands on the site of ancient Epidaurum, a Greek and then Roman town. After it was destroyed in the 7th century, its people moved north to the rock of Ragusa, the settlement that grew into Dubrovnik.
Konavle is the southernmost municipality in Croatia: a fertile valley between the sea and the hills along the borders with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. It came under the Republic of Dubrovnik in the early 15th century and is also where Dubrovnik Airport stands, at Čilipi. The drive from the city is short and there is no border on the route.
Cavtat beyond the promenade
- Vlaho Bukovac, the best-known Croatian painter of his era, was born here in 1855; his family house is now the Bukovac House gallery.
- The Račić mausoleum was designed by the sculptor Ivan Meštrović in the 1920s and sits in the cemetery at the top of the headland.
- The Rector's Palace on the seafront holds the collection of the lawyer and historian Baltazar Bogišić.
- The Rat path runs around the wooded headland and makes an easy walk with swimming spots off the rocks.
Konavle villages and crafts
Konavle embroidery, worked in red, black and gold silk, is the valley's best-known craft, and you may still see it on traditional costumes on Sundays and holidays. Above the village of Dunave stands Sokol Grad, a restored medieval fortress that once guarded the Republic's southern border. Along the Ljuta river there are old stone watermills that once ground the valley's grain.
