Our full-day Korčula boat tour covers the 45 nautical miles from Dubrovnik to Marco Polo's walled town, the reason it stays calm while Dubrovnik heaves. The old town is laid out like a fish skeleton, streets angled to pull in the summer maestral and block the winter bura; locals worked that out seven centuries ago.

Tip. Bring a light layer for the return trip. The afternoon maestral wind usually picks up after 16:00.

The route, stop by stop.

Indicative route. Every trip is private, so you can swap, skip or add a stop.

What to see on a Korčula boat tour from Dubrovnik

A Korčula boat tour from Dubrovnik gives you a couple of hours inside the walls, which is enough for the old town if you know where to start. Boats moor by the town, a short walk from the Land Gate, the main entrance at the top of a broad stone staircase under the Revelin tower.

  • St Mark’s Cathedral: the Gothic and Renaissance church on the main square, built from local stone; the bell tower can usually be climbed for a view over the rooftops and the Pelješac channel.
  • Marco Polo House: the house traditionally shown as the explorer’s birthplace, a few lanes from the cathedral. Whether he was born here is still debated, but the tower view is worth the stop.
  • The sea walls: a walk along the western promenade gives the shade of the pines and views back to the mainland.

The Moreška sword dance is performed on summer evenings, after a day trip has usually headed home. If seeing it matters to you, ask us about a later return.

Changing the route

On a private boat the day can be shaped around what you like. Wine lovers can swap lunch in town for a stop at Lumbarda, where the sandy soil grows Grk and small family cellars sit close to the shore. Pošip, the island’s other white, comes from the inland villages of Čara and Smokvica. Families with children often prefer a longer swim and a shorter walk ashore.

Best season and boat choice

May, June and September are the easiest months: the sea is calmer, the old town is less crowded and the light is softer for photos. Because the open-water legs are long, the boat matters. A fast boat shortens the crossing, while a motor yacht gives shade, a toilet and more space for a group.

The tour suits couples, groups of friends and older children who are happy with several hours at sea. If you want a day with more nature and walking, compare it with our Mljet National Park tour. Questions about the Korčula tour.

All FAQs
How far is Korčula from Dubrovnik by boat?
Forty-five nautical miles, about two to two-and-a-half hours each way by speedboat, with a swim stop at the monastery island of Badija on the run home.
Is Korčula worth a day trip from Dubrovnik?
It's the longest single-island day we run and the one guests thank us for most, medieval streets, island wine and open Adriatic both ways.
What wine is Korčula famous for?
White wines that barely leave the island: Pošip from the inland villages and Grk from the sand around Lumbarda. Order either by the glass inside the walls.
How long is the tour?
About ten hours door to door, with a couple of hours ashore in Korčula and two swim stops. On a fast boat the open-water legs are comfortable; we plan the route around the day’s conditions.
Is lunch included?
Lunch ashore is not included so you’re free to choose, but we’re happy to recommend or book a konoba in the old town and time the day around it.
Where does the tour start and end?
Boarding is at whichever of Cavtat, Lapad, ACI Marina Komolac or the Old Port (Old Town) is closest to you. Hotel transfer is included on most boats; we confirm it for yours with the quote.
What should we bring?
Swimwear, sunscreen and a light layer for the return trip, when the afternoon wind picks up. Towels and snorkelling gear are on board.
How far ahead should we book?
Two to four weeks ahead in July and August. Outside peak weeks a few days is often enough.
